What is asthma?
Asthma is a chronic respiratory tract disorder characterized by narrowing of airways due to inflammation and excessive secretion of mucus. It is marked by episodes of wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. It is a chronic respiratory disease of the lungs that is triggered by a variety of allergens, including pollen, animal dander, trees, weeds, dust mites, strong odors, and chemical fumes. For some people, asthma can be a minor ailment but its severe attacks can be life-threatening and require emergency treatment.
Symptoms of Asthma
Asthma poses a good load of symptoms and sometimes the ailment doesn’t even require any diagnostic tool to claim it as asthma due to its exacerbated symptoms, such as:
- Chest tightness and pain
- Dyspnea (shortness of breath)
- Wheezing sound
- Frequent coughing, especially at night
- Tiredness
- Breathlessness while eating, sleeping, and speaking.
