What are Vermifuges?
Vermifuge herbs are used for expelling parasitic worms from the intestine. They work by different mechanisms, the end result of which is spastic paralysis of the worms. These herbs come under the category of anthelmintics that act by either killing the worms (vermicides) or expelling them (vermifuge).
The ideal vermifuge herb would have a broad therapeutic index, making sure it is more toxic to the parasite than to the host. They can be anticestodal (act against tapeworms) and antinematodal (act against flukes and roundworms).
