Herbs that can be used As an antifungal

What is an antifungal?

Antifungal action is brought upon by certain substances to remove the fungal pathogens from the host. These substances can be applied topically or administered orally, as per the locality of fungal infection. Pathogenic fungi are the most common cause of opportunistic infections and people suffering from AIDS or any other immunosuppressing disorder are more prone to it.

The antifungals target the cell membrane, disrupting its integrity, and prompting the leakage of cytoplasmic content, thus killing the fungi in the process. In 1958, amphotericin B, the very first antifungal medication, was introduced but its toxicity profile led to the generation of other potent antifungals, such as azole antifungals, allylamine and morpholine antifungals, and antimetabolites.

What are the herbal benefits of Antifungals?

Antifungals help with a wide array of fungal infections, such as:

  • Athlete's foot
  • Ringworm infection
  • Onychomycosis (fungal nail infection)
  • Vaginal thrush
  • Genital candidiasis
  • Fungal meningitis
  • Severe dandruff
  • Aspergillosis
  • Jock itch

3 Herbs Recommended as antifungals

Lemongrass

Lemongrass

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon) is an aromatic plant, used enthusiastically in the kitchens to complement savory dishes. It has been found to kill the strains of fungi and bacteria.

Being a stellar diuretic, it flushes the toxins out and treats edema, all the while keeping the urinary tract healthy. Use half to a full dropper of Lemongrass Tincture up to 3 times a day to address internal fungal infections, especially candidiasis.

Rosemary

Rosemary

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a herbaceous perennial with phenomenal medicinal benefits. It is brimmed with a good load of biologically active compounds that impart antibacterial, antifungal, insecticidal, antioxidative, and hepatoprotective effects.

Certain studies claim that Rosemary extracts can block the growth of Candida albicans and Trichomonas vaginalis, hence treating the fungal infections. Use half to a full dropper of Rosemary Tincture to mitigate the fungal infections and their possible exacerbation.

Sage

Sage

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is an evergreen perennial shrub with plenty of benefits. The natural phenolic content of this gentle herb is not-so-gentle on the microbes, killing the bacteria and fungi very easily. It not just kills the fungi but also stops the spread of the infection.

Take half to a full dropper of Sage Tincture up to 3 times a day to treat internal fungal infections, especially candidiasis.
