Functions of the Cardiovascular System
The cardiovascular system performs several vital functions within the human body to support the circulation of blood.
Delivering Oxygen & Nutrients
The heart pumps the oxygenated blood to the tissues and organs through arteries which further branch into capillaries to help with the exchange of oxygen, nutrients, and waste products at cellular level.
Regulation of blood pressure
Blood is propelled throughout the body by the pressure created when the heart pumps blood into the arteries.
Removal of Waste Products
It removes waste products, including carbon dioxide and metabolic byproducts, from the body by urine or exhalation.
Regulation of Temperature
Heat produced by various metabolic activities is carried by blood to the skin's surface, where excess heat can be expelled into the environment. In contrast, during colder weather, blood flow to the skin is decreased in order to preserve heat and preserve core body temperature.
Immunity Support
It helps the immune system by delivering immune cells, antibodies, and other components that protect the body from illnesses and other invaders.
